THE "DINNER" THEATER-NEW CONCEPT OF VISUAL +GASTRONOMIC PLEASURE

Massive expansion of Television entertainment net work in India has adversely affected the viability of many theaters which exhibit movies produced in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad and other film centers. Added to this, the explosive development of pirated video disc industry selling movies for home viewing at low prices are keeping the audience away from the organized theater industry. Many of them are converting their theater properties into commercial complexes for better returns. This is a trend prevalent in many countries including India. Some innovative theaters are adopting newer strategies to attract customers and providing an ambient environment for dinner is one such option.

"Now, as the movie industry celebrates a boffo year of box office — $10.6 billion in ticket sales, the most ever — theaters are going after new revenue and changing the
movie going experience for millions of Americans, turning some multiplexes into luxury outposts and quasi-community centers while assigning new meaning to the concept of "dinner theater".

Some Malls where multiplex theaters are located also include eateries but the eating experience is not much to crow about. Probably if the experience in the US is encouraging, Indian theater industry may also become "dinner theaters" eventually giving unparalleled all round relaxation to the hard pressed urban citizens while making themselves viable economically..
